Riding the ElliptiGo is easier than it looks!
Here are some interesting facts according to the ElliptiGo website:
Advantages over Running
- Low impact – the elliptical bike is much less damaging to the body
- Quicker recovery – can do longer training and more intense training with fewer days off
- More exhilarating – the speed and high-performance experience of elliptical biking can be more thrilling
Similarities to Running
- Closest substitute for the outdoor running experience
- Efficient and effective cardiovascular workout
- Can achieve the “runner’s high”
- Can wear running clothes and shoes
- Weight-bearing exercise
- Conditions similar muscle groups
Disadvantages Compared to Running
- Need equipment (bike, helmet) – can’t just throw on a pair of shoes and go
- Running provides a slightly more efficient workout
- Usually have to deal with more traffic/car issues
- Requires balance and skill
- Currently elliptical biking is limited to the road
- Potential to have a workout interrupted by a flat tire or mechanical problem
Advantages Over Cycling
- Requires less time to get a good workout
- No seat pain
- Significantly less strain on the neck and shoulders
- More enjoyable workout experience because of the improved visibility and head position
- Weight-bearing exercise better maintains bone density
- Upright riding position improves visibility – both being seen by drivers and ability to see over vehicles and other obstacles
Similarities to Cycling
- Similar speed and efficiency of travel – can cover a lot of ground
- Ability to climb hills
- Easy to balance and maneuver
- Similar width and length to a bicycle
- Built from industry standard cycling components
- Same shifting and braking systems
Disadvantages Compared to Cycling
- Worse aerodynamics – have to work harder than cyclists to maintain high speeds (> 18 mph)
- Heavier than most road bicycles
- Different size and shape reduce the number of off-the-shelf bicycle accessories that will accommodate the ElliptiGO
Advantages Over the Elliptical Trainer
- Enjoy the outdoors
- Travel from one place to another
- Longer stride length and modified recovery angle better emulate running
- Balancing required strengthens the core muscles
Similarities to the Elliptical Trainer
- Same low-impact workout
- Similar comfortable motion
- One size fits most people
- Efficient, weight-bearing workout
Disadvantages Compared to the Elliptical Trainer
- Requires balance and skill
- Usually requires navigating traffic and other obstacles
- Workouts can be adversely impacted by the weather

Santa has traded in his old sleigh for something a bit more practical for our coastal location. Hop aboard our festively-decorated water taxi and cozy up for a distinctly-San Diego holiday event. Take in the holiday light-lined shores during a 45-minute scenic cruise around Mission Bay complete with warm beverages, snug blankets, holiday music, caroling and more!
Ticket price includes hot cocoa for the little ones, and mulled wine or other alcoholic beverage for those who wish to imbibe. Space is limited, reservations recommended.
$10 for children, $15 for adults
Please note: Santa will not be present

The Water Taxi is back for December!
Just in time for the holiday season, our Water Taxi is back in action! SeaWorld has an amazing new holiday program called Christmas Celebration running on weekends from November 19th through December 11th and then daily from December 17th through January 1st. The program is described as follows:
“The moment you arrive at SeaWorld’s Christmas Celebration you’ll feel a wave of holiday spirit splash over you. Christmas fills that air and the Skytower sparkles after dark. Shamu’s Christmas show brings the season to life beneath the stars in a way you have to see to believe. In our wintery, watery wonderland, you can play in the snow at the all-new SnowWorld, enjoy stunning live shows inspired by the natural world, share a smile with a sea lion and get immersed in the wonders of The Polar Express 4-D Experience. And don’t miss the pet-stravaganza Christmas Tails show. With everything from elves to Elmo, and from Santa to Shamu, SeaWorld’s Christmas Celebration is where holiday memories are made.

Tickets for the Water Taxi and for SeaWorld can be purchased from Paradise Point’s Island Market Place. All passengers MUST have a SeaWorld ticket prior to boarding the Water Taxi as tickets will not be available at the SeaWorld gate. Also, Water Taxi tickets are ONLY sold at the Island Market Place; tickets are not available at the Paradise Point Marina.

New Bike Rental Location!
It is finally here…the new bike rental at Paradise Point Resort! There’s a little bit of construction which will be finished tomorrow but the bikes are up and running. We have everything from surrey bikes to kids’ bikes to tandems. With the good weather heading our way, what better way than to get outside and cruise around Mission Bay on one of our bikes?
