Have you tried the ElliptiGo?

With the beautiful weekend weather we just had and perhaps the necessity to work off those Thanksgiving pounds, why not try the ElliptiGo?   Once you try it, you’ll be hooked as riding the ElliptiGo is like running on air!  The best part about the ElliptiGo is that you can get a great cardio workout without the jarring impact of running or the discomfort of traditional cycling.

Check out the how-to video below:

Riding the ElliptiGo is easier than it looks!

Here are some interesting facts according to the ElliptiGo website:

Advantages over Running

  • Low impact – the elliptical bike is much less damaging to the body
  • Quicker recovery – can do longer training and more intense training with fewer days off
  • More exhilarating – the speed and high-performance experience of elliptical biking can be more thrilling

Similarities to Running

  • Closest substitute for the outdoor running experience
  • Efficient and effective cardiovascular workout
  • Can achieve the “runner’s high”
  • Can wear running clothes and shoes
  • Weight-bearing exercise

Disadvantages Compared to Running

  • Need equipment (bike, helmet) – can’t just throw on a pair of shoes and go
  • Running provides a slightly more efficient workout
  • Usually have to deal with more traffic/car issues
  • Requires balance and skill
  • Currently elliptical biking is limited to the road
  • Potential to have a workout interrupted by a flat tire or mechanical problem

  • Significantly less strain on the neck and shoulders
  • More enjoyable workout experience because of the improved visibility and head position

Similarities to Cycling

  • Similar speed and efficiency of travel – can cover a lot of ground
  • Ability to climb hills
  • Easy to balance and maneuver
  • Similar width and length to a bicycle
  • Built from industry standard cycling components
  • Same shifting and braking systems

Disadvantages Compared to Cycling

  • Worse aerodynamics – have to work harder than cyclists to maintain high speeds (> 18 mph)
  • Heavier than most road bicycles
  • Different size and shape reduce the number of off-the-shelf bicycle accessories that will accommodate the ElliptiGO

Advantages Over the Elliptical Trainer

  • Enjoy the outdoors
  • Travel from one place to another
  • Longer stride length and modified recovery angle better emulate running
  • Balancing required strengthens the core muscles
